Task 2.3: Sensitivity studies (UPAV, LNEC)
Return periods for different levels of performance are arbitrarily defined in most design codes. Such levels of design should perhaps be explicitly set by code drafters, based on the resulting social and economic losses. In WP2 we have been investigating a new paradigm shift, where loss exceedance curves for buildings within a given region that are designed to different levels of strength, stiffness and ductility are calculated and compared with the associated cost of design, to identify optimum levels of design.
Deliverable 2.3 will be submitted in the summer of 2011.
